This is my first draft list for 'Ard Boyz. Looking at taking High Elves with all sorts of silliness. Here goes:

Prince
Moon Dragon
Star Lance (S7 charge, no armor save)
Armor of Caledor (2+ armor, can't improve)
Guardian Phoenix (5+ ward)

Prince
Moon Dragon
Dragon Armor
Lance
Shield
Null Stone (no casting to or from 6" radius, no magic weapons, no magic items)

Lv 1 Mage
Scroll
Scroll

Noble (BSB)
Battle Banner
Barded Steed
Lance
Shield
Dragon Armor

6 Dragon Princes
Full command
Skeinsliver (+1 for first turn)
War Banner

5 Dragon Princes
Musician

The stupid part is that it's quite fluffy as an army of Caledor.

I looked at dual star dragon, and I don't think it's worth it. Who really needs S7 anyways. I'm not totally sold on 2 dragons, but it seems like a good idea on paper. If I drop one it will be in favour of a couple lion chariots I think. Pretty simple army really... you have 1 turn to try and stop it and then shit hits the fan if things go my way. Should be pretty resilient... one turn of shooting shouldn't wipe out more than a unit and a half of princes unless it's a gunline in which case it's boned anyways, and magic is practically negligible since I can shield 2-3 units of knights and at least one dragon with the stone for a turn and crack my scrolls, then drop the stone wherever there are 1-2 wizard lords standing around (take that slaan/manfred) - should be really hard to stop a dragon getting within 6" if I want it to. 36 S4 armor piercing and 30 S3 shots mean I can probably soften up just about anything enough to break through with a combo knight + dragon (or 2 dragon) charge.

Anyways, this all looks very nice on paper, but I'll have to test it out against 3k of vamps, daemons and probably lizards too before I'm sold. Oh and if the scenarios are as stupid as for the 40k version, I might need to make some changes. Pure MSU cav is kicking around the back of my head too, but I don't think it cuts it, takes more than that to break daemons/vamps on the charge.

I think the Moon Dragons are lacking personally. For two reasons,

First the Armor Save. 4+ will see a lot of wounds through. I'm thinking how silly easy it was for Nate to kill my Sun Dragon with Poison Skink Blowgun wounds. 3+ and an additional Wound will make you a lot more survivable.

Second the extra offense is more than just Str 7. Its +1WS +1S, +1A. The care you have to take with the Dragons in winning combat, is making sure when you are challenged you do maximum overkill. Otherwise you are losing combat and you're Prince is a lot less killy after that initial charge even if you stick.

I look at it this way. If I told you for 70pts you get +1A, +1WS, +1S, +1W and a +1 to AS without taking up magic item points, wouldn't it be a no brainer to take it? You are paying 20pts for a +1A on a Dragon Prince champion...

As for the list, it could end up being very effective against the right match ups. My doubt comes in given that I do worst case analysis for metagaming in an Ard Boyz event. If the trend of non-standard tournament goers attending continues as it did for 40k, then the idea of seeing 6 bolt throwers on the table will be more common I think.

Anything with fearless units (Undead, Daemons) will be pretty impervious to everything early except bolt throwers. You have to wait for whittling or really good combo charges to hit a ranked fearless unit.

On the plus side it is a reach out and touch someone list. Super fast, with some long range punch. You can catch people off guard and go for the throat when you choose.

I think you should focus more around Teclis for Ard Boyz. I think he needs to be a must at 3k for High Elves in that kind of environment.
