Hi, for the Warmasters Challenge doubles tournament my brother and I are doing a Black Templars/Black Templars army. My questions regard the Emperors Champion's vows and the Marshall's "Rites of Battle" rules. First with the Rites of Battle if I take a Marshall does the leadership affect both armies? Second when selecting the armies do/can both players take an Emperors Champion as it is a mandatory option in any army over 750 points, and if so would both of the vows affect both armies? And finally can one player take both the Emperoes Champion and a Marshall in one army? Thanks for any help.

If I'm not mistaken, in previous versions of the WMC, when two players bring the same army (BT / BT, Eldar / Eldar) then they are considered to be one army in total so the 0-1 restrictions apply (ie: Eldar Avatar is 0-1).

Though that is just based off memory... better to get a response from the council.

Thanks for the help, I'll email the council like you suggested, but what you said makes a lot of sense. But this will really help us finalize our list.

Andrew,

From the 2009 Players guide...

"Other Limiting Restrictions (0-1 restrictions, max one per army restrictions, etc) - Other than
Special Characters (see above), all limiting restrictions are considered on a per player basis.
I.E. A dual Necron force could include two Necron Lords, each with a Veil of Darkness."

Thus you may each take a Emperors Champion.

"Black Templars may take the Emperor’s Champion as their HQ selection."
This means the mandatory selection of the EC is removed. If you choose to take him he takes up your HQ slot. One player cannot take both the EC and the Marshall in their force as this would require 2 HQ slots.

With regards to Rites of Battle, I don't have my book in front of me so I'm not sure on the exact wording of that rule. However, if the rule says that it effects all "Templar", "allies", "Marines" then the Marshall's power will effect your partners force as well. I'll double check the wording for you and post it back on here.

Regards,
Greg

The difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference, but in practice, there is.

For the Warmasters 40k Doubles Event, the Emperor's Champion does take up an HQ slot as per the Player's Guide. This ONLY applies to the Doubles Event.

The trade off is that you aren't forced to take him.
