IG Mech 1500pts(Valkyries)
Hello,
My local tournament,
is right around the corner and i'm looking for some feed back on my list. (IG Mech 1500pts)
so...here we go
----------------------------------------
Valkyrie 130
- Rocket Pods
Valkyrie 130
- Rocket Pods
Valkyrie 130
- Rocket Pods
Veteran 100
w/3x Melta
Veteran 100
w/3x Melta
Veteran 115
w/3xPlasma
The 3 squads on Veterans above are in Valkyies,
and depending on the situation the Valkyries could be Outflanking
---------------------------------------
Chimera 55
Chimera 55
Chimera 55
Veteran 110
w/ Autocannon
2xPlasma
Veteran 95
w/ Autocannon
3xFlamer
Company Command 95
w/ Astropath
Missile Launcher
The 3 Squads above will be mounted in the Chimera's, and should provide a good number of shots in to the enemy ranks and posibility to take out light armor
It can to my attention that I may not be able to have 1 heavy & 3 special weapon in a vet squad, just wondering if that is true or not
---------------------------------------
Demolisher 165
Demolisher 165
So voila there's my list,
Also...
If you give me any feedback please list the why and what can I do to fix it.
Thanks

Hey!
Yea, I seen the 13 chimera list at the Warmasters and well,...I've never seen anything like it,
sadly I dont have the money to invest in 10 more chimeras, so...right now Valks are my "cheap" alternative,
- Now, I like the stubber idea,
so...maybe drop the Autocannons, are replace them you stubbers?
- As for the Veterans being a point sink, well sadly I cant do nothing about that, My local tournament structure requests you to have the most troop selections posible, to be able to get into the top 3.
- I would have done a Platoon...but oh well
- As for Basilisk, I find there 36"min range to be well...crap, (and playing corners could get them out flanked)
Now, If it was posible I would use Medusas, But I find the Demolisher's strike terror in the enemy,
(for the first turn or two)
- Now for to reply to this Quote:
"For those of you who think gun lines are dead"
Maybe I should modify my thinking to...the "infantry gun line is dead"
---------------------------------------------------------
Now for a different subjet,
I was thinking in changing one of my Valkyrie's into a Vendetta(I found 6 lascannon in my bits box)
would you think this would be a good idea?

The choice of veterans over a platoon is more about the number of Chimeras. If using Valks, vets are likely your best bet, with more special weapons and a higher balistic skill they'll be able to disembark and stand a very good chance of dealing with thier target. If you plan to stick with 3 valks/vendettas the veterans are a good choice.
I do like the 3 lascannons on the vendetta, have yet to see one played but with mobility it should be able to get into side arcs of fire.
Keep in mind that the basilisk can fire directly, it's minimum range of 36" is only for its "indirect" fire option. It should be able to see over the chimeras at most targets, and the 2d6 roll for the armour pen means it can stand a good chance at heavier armour. With the points you save on just 1 basilisk instead of a demolisher you could get your stubbers, and whatever other upgrades you wanted.
And yeah, the "infantry gun line" is outdated, but lists like this allow you to stand and shoot the hell out of your enemy. Once you pass the 100 shots per turn mark you stand a good chance of either wiping out your opponent or being able to move up and take objectives in the last few turns with little resisitance.
Just quickly replying on one point:(mostly because I want to use my basilisks again)
Now I know it 4th you could make the Basilisk fire Direct,
but with this 5th edition codex it doesn't look like I have that option,
Now I didn't look in the "big book of rules" yet,(and wont be able to until tomarow)
But the Earthshaker cannon Range is 36-240,
and right now for me, it doesn't look like It can do it
But if you give me the "page" were I can take away the Barrage for a direct fire option, I would be a happy player.

Nice!...Happy day!
Because my local tournament gives me points for having more then 2 troops & it gives me more points if I have one of each selection (Hq,Elite,Fast,Troop,Heavy)
- I came up with this new revised list
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Valkyrie 130
- Rocket Pods
Valkyrie 130
- Rocket Pods
Vandetta 130
Veteran 100
w/3x Melta
Veteran 100
w/3x Melta
Veteran 115
w/2xPlasma
Primaris Psyker 70
The 3 squads on Veterans above with the Primaris Psyker are in Valkyies,
and depending on the situation the Valkyries could be Outflanking
---------------------------------------
Chimera w/stubber 65
Chimera w/stubber 65
Chimera w/stubber 65
Veteran 85
w/ Autocannon & 1xFlamer
Veteran 90
w/ Autocannon & 2x Flamer
Psyker Battle Squad 80
2 extra Psykers
The 3 Squads above will be in the Chimeras
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Demolisher
Basilisk
and Voila,
i'm not too sure about the Psyker Battle Squad, but it is a good elite choice, and i'm thinking that vs Eldar giving the psyker a -6 LD could hurt there ability to activate there powers,
I could drop up 2 psykers from the battle squad to give me more special weapons, but then they may not be affective anymore
Feedback is welcome as usal

The psycher battle squad if you get the power off on any unit -6 LD is awesome. However, the -6 LD only lasts until the end of your turn and doesn't last into the Eldar Turn :( So you won't effect their ability to get power off.
However, you can use it on them...then shoot them to get them to run away.
The other problem with relying on them against Eldar, is that most Eldar have a good psychic defense option in the Runes of Warding, so you can only expect your power to get off a little less than 50% of the time.
Later,
Greg

Veterans may include 3 special weapons, as well as a veteran weapons team with heavy weapon... so in that regard your fine.
Mech guard lists are very strong right now, mostly due to the Chimera. I'd include the heavy stubber for the 10 points, for 65 points your chimera has 9 shots stationary or 6 on the move since the stubber is defensive. I personally think you'd be better off with all chimera, though the Valks are very cool looking models, though in my opinion not as effective as the chimera. If you run all chimera the veterans to me are a points sink, they don't do anything that an infantry platoon won't. With the 5 fire points on the chimera your command squads should be all flamer or melta for the "drive by". Though there is something to be said about that extra balistic skill.
I'd consider dropping out the Demolishers for Basilisks, they'll get a cover save while being able to fire over the Chimeras(which really can sit still for the first few turns). Camo netting is useful, though at 30pts expensive. You have lots of melta so I don't know if you need more AP2 or anti tank that the demolisher provides.
Having recently played against a chimera heavy guard list lately I can say that they are extremely difficult to deal with. I was fortunate that I'm mostly in drop pods, so could get right up to them early, though I still soundly lost the primary.
For those of you who think gun lines are dead try playing against 13 chimeras and 2 basilisks in 1850, something like 107 shots per turn at the 36" line. Add to that the fact that 10 of those squads are troops and it's a very hard nut to crack. This list here seems very solid in 1500 points. I personally think that this style of list will be very popular in the future.
